So Much Personal Tragedy in Haiti

I think most of the world has forgotten Haiti. But it's time we did something effective to bring this country up to the standards of the rest of the Western Hemisphere and beyond.

Too long, it has been the poorest, least skilled, most illiterate nation with the fewest national resources.

They were blacklisted in 1804 when they declared independence from Napoleon's France. Slaves were not to be permitted to do that. Slavery was still a stable economic system of Europe and the Americas. So they were embargoed, and went from the wealthiest of the Caribbean islands to the poorest country in the west.

It's a long time since, and it's about time we took our share in the responsibility of doing something to build Haiti back up.
