I'm from Santa Barbara, and I do my volunteer work as a Scientology volunteer minister here, but it's great to think that I'm a part of a real international network of people helping people.
I was raised as a Scientologist, and helping others has been part of my life. I can understand why some people might now want to "bother" if they don't know they can actually help people.
It's not too surprising. There are a lot of things passing themselves off as help that are just the reverse. Take psychs who create lables for kids so they can get kickbacks on the drugs they pedal. It's so crazy to drug a kid when all he really needs is to learn how to learn.
I learned how to use L. Ron Hubbard's study tech when I was first going to school, and I never had to hassel with the trouble other kids have in school because the things kids do that get lables as ADD or ADHD are really just the side effects of bad study habits.
But back to the how I started this posting, my church has something called a Volunteer Minister cavalcade - that's a tent we take out in neighborhoods around Scientology churches where we bring help right to people. The Scientology volunteer ministers are probably best known for disaster relief, but even though floods and earthquakes and bombings are a lot more dramatic than people's everyday lives, the fact is that people need help just to get by at work. Look how many businesses fail in their first year. How many companies are making a fortune advertising to come to them to get a job because people who have perfectly decent jobs are miserable there because they can't get along with their boss or find the stress too overwhelming. How many kids end up having to spend half the week with their mom and the rest of the week with their dad, trying to stay impartial when each of the parents is vying for being the one they prefer to live with. What ever happened to the institution of marriage. See what I mean? These are the kinds of things that people worry about, that they fix on. And what passes as "solutions" for these problems is often worse that the problems themselves.
Did you know that anyone can traing to be a Scientology volunteer minister, and that this training gives you the tools to handle everything I mentioned above?
Sometimes people think that because I'm a kid I couldn't possibly know enough to help them. But because I'm a volunteer minister and I did the training from the Scientology Handbook, I can and DO.
Here's another thing. Did you know that ANYONE who wants to learn how to do this can get a copy of the Scientology Handbook at a bookstore, buy it online, or even read it online and learn these things too?
People sometimes complain that Scientology volunteer ministers are trying to take advantage of people who are vulnerable because they are suffering. They obviously have never seen the difference they can make in someone's life with the tools a Scientology volunteer minister learns.
