In 2005, Scientology Volunteer Ministers helped at the scene of 44 disasters, both natural and man-made.

This year Scientology churches are gearing up to assist even more, by training more Volunteer Ministers and providing training to emergency relief personnel in the private and public sector.

Here is an example from the Volunteer Ministers web site:

In the aftermath of Cyclone Larry, Volunteer Ministers from the Church of Scientology of Brisbane and the Church of Scientology of Sydney continue their disaster relief work to help local residents with whatever assistance is needed.

Officials have been too busy coping with the immediate disaster to make use of their skills. Therefore the Volunteer Ministers have taken on coordinating volunteers, ensuring they have their own housing, training them and putting them to work. There is a lot of manual labor needed -- chopping down the trees and doing all the various tasks to clean up the area. Much more help is needed.
