What Difference Does it Make
Why would person give up their precious time on the weekend to do volunteer work?
For that matter, what would make someone give up their vacation time to be able to travel to some disaster zone to help total strangers?
I can't answer for anyone buy myself. Before I learned about Scientology you would not have caught me doing anything on MY time but what I wanted to do or would benefit from. But things really shifted for me when I started using what I read in Scientology books and seeing how much it worked. And I could see how much my friends, my sisters, my folks, the people I worked with, needed what I was getting and I just naturally wanted to share it.
Then another thing happened. It was kind of subtle. I can't even say when it changed for me, but it was a pretty drastic change. I went from being the number one loafer in my crowd to being happy doing what I was doing and no longer feeling like I was sacrificing something if I didn't get to milk every possible second out of my boss for time for myself. I started extending my hours at work, and started volunteering.
I imagine other volunteers have experienced similar things in their own lives.
I still love my loafing time and I devour novels or interesting non-fiction and am a great movie buff, but I love my volunteer time, and when I've been at the Scientology Volunteer Ministers tent tent and helped someone I never met before it's like nothing else. I've had people come back to me and thank me for my help, and let me know how much better they are doing because of it. And that's got to be one of the best highs there is.
